How it all started
Following my Masters degree at Ithaca College I was working my first full time job as an athletic trainer at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). During the fall I realized that all my athlete's were dealing with the same issues. Similar injuries, similar problems with teammates and coaches, and similar struggles with recovery. These issues weren't for their lack of effort, but more from their lack of knowledge in these areas.
I thought to myself as I sat at my desk, "there has to be a better way to educate and prepare these athletes on how to take care of themselves."
When athletes get to the collegiate level, coaches expect them to understand how to take care of their bodies. This includes how to get bigger, faster and stronger in the weight room, add muscle, stay healthy, maintain high levels of commitment, be a great teammate and leader, and recovery as quick as possible to always be available.
It was no wonder athletes were struggling with all of these things. On top of being a full time student and practicing their sport, they didn't have the time to educate themselves in all of these areas. It took me 5 years of college, multiple degrees, and certifications to scratch the surface of understanding how these components worked and how best to implement them in training... No wonder athletes were struggling.
And that's how CHP was born. Through years of competing as an athlete I understood what it took to get the job done between the lines. Through my education and work experience I had developed the tools that athlete's needed to help them achieve their full potential.
Offering strength and conditioning, mental performance and active recovery programs, CHP gives athletes and coaches the tools that they need in order to reach their full potential.
